Name this plant?

Found along roadsides in central Kansas. Fairly wet, disturbed areas. Might be a type of thistle? Help IDing would be much appreciated!

  2. Carole knows her poppies! Native Americans used the bright yellow sap to remove warts & used the crushed seeds to treat burns, cuts & sores. Not that I have any sores or cuts that I need to treat, of course!

  3. Thank you! It really does look like a poppy, now that you say it. Maybe one crossed with a thistle.

  4. Prickly poppy. See comment on Hartsel page for scientific name. First time I encountered Prickly Poppies was in SW Colorado and I tried to pick one. Only one. Won't make that mistake again.
